Carrier Oils Info

It can be confusing to select which oil to use for what skin type or condition. Below is a brief list of some of the popular ones used in Aromatherapy. Remember all oils are healing and good for skin and some may be more suited than others. Bottom line, they all work! Just take your pick!

Apricot Kernel oil – High in Vitamins A and B which aid in healing and rejuvenating skin cells.

Almond oil - Loaded with protein, high percentage of polyunsaturated fatty acids, minerals, vitamins A, B1, B2, B6. Absorbs into the skin rapidly, odourless and good for facial massage oil.

Argan oil – A luxury oil good for everything! Renowned for its natural antioxidant and anti-aging properties.

Avocado oil – Rich and heavy, extremely good with dry skin conditions, eczema and psoriasis. One of our best sellers!

Castor oil – A rich oil that seals and protects, good for sealing in moisture. Known for promoting eye growth and an excellent oil for hair and scalp. Best used in dilution due to being a heavy oil.

Evening Primrose oil – Good as an antioxidant oil so it’s often added to other carrier oils to prolong their shelf life.

Grapeseed oil – Commonly used as a massage oil, very light and penetrates the skin quickly.

Jojoba oil – Good for very dry or very oily skin conditions; often added to other carrier oils to prolong their shelf life. Good for acne prone and oily/combination skin types.

Olive oil – Good for most sincare preparations, with extra virgin having the highest amount of vitamins and minerals. Helps with dehydrated or irritated skin, used as a prevention treatment for stretch marks/scars. Also good for conditioning the hair and has excellent skin moisturising properties.

Rosehip oil - Contains linoleic acids, vitamin A (retinol) and is high in unsaturated fatty acids (77%). It is an excellent skin rejuvenating and regenerating oil, especially for mature/ageing skin. It is known to be highly effective on scars, wounds, burns, stretch marks and eczema. Perhaps one of the best oils for scars!

Vitamin E oil – Good for prolonging the shelf life of other carrier oils, very thick, antioxidant; heals scars and rejuvenates skin cellular activity.

Wheatgerm oil – Loaded with Vitamins A, D, and E, useful for relieving the symptoms of dermatitis, improving circulation and helps promote the formation of new cells. A good oil for mature and dry skin.
